Hi there, I've bought a portable Wi-Fi router, that can share 3G or 4G Internet over Wi-Fi network. It is also able to share a wired Internet connection in the same way. What I'd like to know is can anyone hack the device, or steal the data, shared among the network? I'm planning to use it on my business affairs, and the safety of information is rather important here. Many thanks in advance! |
Hello, we at Jammer-Store think that IT security is really important and we will try to help you protect your data. Such portable Wi-Fi router, or MiFi's are widely spread and they are convenient if you urgently need an Internet connection for a couple of working stations. But, we've already written that those portable MiFi routers can be pretty dangerous. The reason here is in the way they work. They create a WPA-2 Personal encrypted wireless network and share the Internet connection between connected users. The main problem is that wireless networks are not really reliable. They can be hacked easily and in that case all your private or commercial data will be at risk. If you plan to use it on your business affairs – we'd recommend you not to do it. You won't be able to detect if someone's trying to get in your network, because Wi-Fi can be hacked even with an iPhone. That is why it is better to avoid MiFi's. But there is a couple of things you can do to protect your gadgets. The problem with Wi-Fi is that its signals can't be limited and anyone, with according receiver can get them. But you can limit the spreading of Wi-Fi waves with a Wi-Fi signal jammer. It will block all the 2.4 GHz frequency signals and limit the range, from which your network is accessible. In that case, a hacker will have to get really close to steal your data. |
